Stay Yet, My Friends is a piece dedicated to, I feel, one of the most beautiful and self-reflexive holidays - New Year’s Eve. New Year’s Eve was one of the most important holidays in our family, as our grandmother (the family matriarch) would host and entertain guests with traditions and talk of the year that has passed and the year ahead. To me, the holiday has always felt joyful, meditative, somber, and hopeful at the same time, and I have tried to capture those feelings in this piece.
The piece focuses on the different aspects of NYE, between celebrating with dear friends and reflecting on the memories, trials, friends and family that has come and gone in a year. With that, though, is the eternal hope that the next year will bring us more, but it’s okay to linger in this moment a moment longer.
