Ancestral Journey is an inspiration of the African American spiritual
  popular during slavery and even through the Civil Rights Movement.  It is very mournful, solemnly prayerful,
  and everything the ancestors of African descent would express.  The dynamics and legato style as well as
  flattened notes brings out these expressions.  The 1st stand viola is doubling the 1st
  violin in spots.  Please pass out the
  parts accordingly.  There are two
  parts. Also, there is a sheet with both parts.  The first option may be easier to read due
  to the size of the notes.

This solemn work was composed in the style of a Negro spiritual.   Spiritual Prayer represents the trials
  and tribulations of the African-American experience.  There are conversations in this piece,
  both solemn and some more engaging. 
  The grace note slides are a part of spiritual expression also used in
  jazz, rhythm and blues, and other styles of music.   There are no lyrics to this as spiritual
  music can be expressed without words. 
  Although this work is written for intermediate orchestra, advanced
  groups can also perform it.

Spiritual Prayer

Country Blue Waltz was written in dedication to the memory of the
  composers father, Mr. David E. Robinson II who grew up in Monticello,
  MS.  The beautiful country melody
  consisting of blue notes and down-home, relaxing rhythms may remind
  audiences of a simple way of life. 
  Think of the farmland, animals, dirt roads, ice cold lemonade and
  sugar-sweet tea, delicious home-cooked meals, sweet watermelon, and so on.  Please play this piece with flavor.

Country Blue Waltz

Apple Orchard Waltz, a sweet joy for any season especially the spring
  and fall.  This work is perfect for
  concerts, ballroom dance events such as debutante cotillions and
  beautillions, and other performances. 
  The orchestra may even want to sway to the left and right when
  performing this waltz in 3-4 time.

Apple Orchard Waltz

"Festive Harvest Celebration" is an orchestral work that can be
  used for the annual African American heritage celebration of Kwanzaa as well
  as for Black History, and concerts of any seasons especially in the
  community.  The joyous rhythms and
  syncopations in the style of traditional African music would certainly
  welcome the performance of a dance ensemble and African drums.  Percussion parts are included.

Festive Harvest Celebration

The beautiful and mighty Ubanji River (also spelled, "Oubangui") is located in Central Africa.  It is called the “right bank tributary of the Congo River,” (as stated in Britannica) which marks the border between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo.  The fishing industry is real big there.  The river swerves and curves with many twists and turns exposing the beautiful scenery throughout the waterscape including the equatorial rainforest.

Ubanji River

Honeysuckle Bloom Waltz captures the sweet, essence of beauty that has
  a sweet fragrance to it.  Please play
  this piece with the sweetness of this blooming flower.  It is an exciting piece for ballroom
  dancers at elegant events (cotillions, fashion shows, etc.). The cello and
  viola sections carry the melody in spots.

Honeysuckle Bloom Waltz

Testimonial March is a pompous march for most any occasion especially
  in school assemblies: honors day, promotions (graduations), special guest
  speakers, holiday programs, banquets, Grandparents Day, and so on.  The rhythm and the melodies express pride,
  motivation, determination, high honors, and vision for the future.  It is suitable for occasions in the
  community including government events.  
  Note:  The 3rd violin part can
  be used in absence of violas or if there are not enough of them to balance
  the orchestra.  The double bass part
  could be played by a cellist or two (or more) especially if there is a
  shortage of basses.

Testimonial March

"Arctosis Floral Rondo" is a waltz in rondo form.  Arctosis is a beautiful African daisy that
  exhibits bright colors. It is a native flower to South Africa.  The center of the flower is dark surrounded
  by petals of a color such as red, yellow, orange, pink, purple, and
  white.  There are several types of
  arctosis such as Fastuosa and Venusta. 
  They will bloom continuously from late spring until the frost
  comes.  In hot weather they will stop
  blooming until the temperature cools off. 
  This waltz can be performed on any occasion especially events in the
  spring such as debutante cotillions, dance recitals, and social etiquette
  programs.

Arctosis Floral Rondo

"Busutu Nation" is a work of a fictional country in ancient southwest Africa.  They were known for agriculture, education, architecture, and business.  They had their own army to protect against invasions from other nations.  A symbol of strength, the people of this nation stood tall and proud.  The rhythms, syncopations, dynamics, and articulations tell the story musically as it moves.

Busutu Nation

Arabia Mountain, a beautiful, majestic rock mountain in Stonecrest,
  Georgia located east of Atlanta is one of many great land masses.  Many people love to walk the trails and
  climb the mountains (including the composer).   One would think that they were on another
  planet.  Science fiction movies and
  television shows could have very well used this mountain for scenes of other
  planets.  It has a few waterways (lakes
  and streams), numerous puddles after a rain, some woods with trails, many
  rock formations including some that have been broken, shallow craters, and so
  on.  Each of the three movements brings
  out the true essence as well as the adventure in climbing it.

Arabia Mountain (Georgia)

iBabyis Breath Waltz,i a work dedicated to the beautiful cluster of
  small, white flowers that enhances bouquets of larger flowers; like a
  igarnish.i  This added touch is the
  icing on the cake for many colorful flowers. 
  This work is perfect for concerts, ballroom dance events such as
  debutante cotillions and beautillions, and other performances.  The orchestra may even want to sway to the
  left and right when performing this waltz in 3-4 time.

Baby's Breath Waltz

Fish River Canyon is a massive canyon and waterway river that winds,
  and winds, and winds around for many, many miles.  It is located in southern Namibia making it
  the largest canyon in Africa.  The
  music is majestic, which represents the depth and beauty.  The tonal centers keep changing, the
  rhythms alert you to watch your step, the peaks, the valleys, the water flow,
  and other surprises.

Fish River Canyon

Little Patriotic March can be performed for any occasion, namely those
  that salute the United States of America. 
  A musical salute to the soldiers and officers of the Armed Forces, a
  call to action for its citizens in performing acts of kindness, parade
  events, honor awards celebration for the students, or any other civic
  celebrations in the school, the community, and so on.  This march is pompous and full of energy.

Little Patriotic March

This exciting rendition of this classic jubilee has an enchanting harmonic structure. Mr. Robinson's youth orchestra students said that it reminds them of a theme for a detective spy thriller movie. The musicians and the audience could practically picture going on an adventure far away to bring a 'delivery.' Conductors and students are urged to be creative, even animated in some sections. Look for some recordings of choirs and soloists performing this piece. Includes optional 3rd Violin part in case the Viola part is missing or there are few in the section.

Didn't My Lord Deliver Daniel?

Take a ride on the back of a pickup truck on "Open Road Country," a lively, country novelty about riding through the rolling hills, curvy roads, and friendly neighborhoods.  There are lots of twists and turns in the melodies, rhythms, syncopations, and so on, all with a kick.  Let the wind blow through your hair (or lack thereof like the composer).  The student can really sharpen his/her fiddlin' skills on his/her instrument in this exciting piece.

Open Road Country

A salute to Second Avenue in Decatur, GA where Mr. Robinson taught for
  over three decades; the location of his first schools teaching assignment
  (Leslie J. Steele Elementary) of the Gordon/Ronald E. McNair Cluster on the
  Dekalb County Schools.  Lots of music,
  especially orchestra music took place along this corridor including an annual
  drug prevention parade.  A
  multicultural variety of music filled the concert halls (cafeteria,
  gymnasium, athletic field, library, even hallway) of these schools.  This pompous march represents the energy
  and talent of these students.

Parade on Second Avenue

Walking through fields of tall grass, you may see some grasshoppers
  hopping everywhere.  Some children may
  have a jar or net to capture a hopper-grass.  The composer used to catch them in a jar
  with his best friend when he was young. 
  Of course they would be released an hour, even minutes later along
  with the moths, butterflies, etc. The hopper-grass rhythm is played
  throughout the piece, which can be very entertaining to small children.

Hopper-Grass

"Bantu Matador" is about an exciting, energetic, rhythmical piece about bullfighting in Africa. The most notable and first documented bullfighter in Africa was Ricardo Paulo Chibanga born in 1942.  He was invited to Portugal and Spain where he fought many bulls.  His unique style of fighting was the use of colorful costumes and dance to confuse the bulls. The synchopated rhythms give it that flavor.  He remained in the industry for over 30 years. The music may remind you of Bizet's, "Carmen."

Bantu Matador

"Hannibal of Carthage" is a driving, powerful work that
  represents the conquests of General Hannibal Barca (247 B.C. i 183/181
  B.C.), the leader of Carthage in the African nation of Tunisia. He is
  considered to be one of the greatest, most powerful military leaders
  ever.  He led his soldiers to victory
  over the Roman army of that time.  He
  was also a statesman.  The melodic
  themes and the harmonic structure of the music practically tell the
  story.  Note:  The 3rd violin part can be used in absence
  of violas or if there are not enough of them to balance the orchestra.  The double bass part could be played by a
  cellist or two (or more) especially if there is a shortage of basses.
