This string quartet has a slightly unusual structure. Each instrument is given its own theme, and in the first movement they all play their themes simultaneously with the first violin theme predominating. The other themes are only briefly introduced on their own. Each subsequent movement focuses on and develops the theme of each subsequent instrument. The work was designed to have pleasing melodies that an audience would enjoy, just in an unconventional structure.
