Tempora mutantur is a piece written for Saxophone ensemble. This piece, commissioned by Dr. David Stambler and the Penn State Saxophone Ensemble, is a timbral experience in the duality of stagnation and change. The full title of this piece:
"Tempora mutantur... et nos mutamur in illis",
is a latin phrase meaning
"The times are changing...and we're changing with them."
As I move through life and my compositional career, I find myself returning to this idea, and how no matter how hard we try, life just keeps moving, whether we're ready for it or not. For me, this piece is a big question mark, saying "Is constant change a bad thing?" and "If we're always changing, has anything really changed?"
