TEN THOUSAND THINGS was originally composed for my quartet Circle Squared and released on my
album of the same name. The original version of this arrangement was commissioned by the Bard
College Contemporary Jazz Composers Ensemble as part of a concert of my music in 2018.
This tune alternates between the opening figure, which tumbles down the registers of the entire band, and driving rhythm section figures that support an uncharacteristically languid melody line (but with some RELALY crunchy voicings! ). The jump cut to the little 3/4 "lullabye" tune is a nice palate cleanser before jumping into the solo sections. There' s also a rhythmically challenging unaccompanied sax soli between the baritone and alto sax solo sections.
