That's Enough Slices!

This is an original composition for Jazz Ensemble in the jazz/rock/funk genre. Program Notes: My wife has been my Color Guard instructor for more than two decades and now oversees our Stingers Dance Team and Cheerleaders. Over the years, whenever I arranged a piece that didn’t follow the standard 8-, 16-, or 32-count phrasing, she would give me “the look” and call them re-counts. So, I decided to lean into it and compose an entire piece that intentionally avoids those predictable phrase lengths. If anyone ever attempts to choreograph this, it will certainly keep them on their toes! And, much like the viral video where a pizza keeps getting sliced smaller and smaller, I can almost hear the choreographer exclaiming, “That’s enough slices!”
