A traditional sea shanty from the 1850s celebrates events from the 19th
century Mexican-American War in which the Mexican troops were led by Antonio
Lopez de Santa Anna and the American army was led by Zachary Taylor. The song
has been recorded many times, famously by the folk groups The Weavers and The
Kingston Trio. The fiery minor key setting will be a showstopper for low
voice choirs in high school and up.
