A series of five contrasting musical tableaux describes the famous characters surrounding King Arthur. At the Castle Gates is a depiction of Camelot itself, followed by King Arthur, in which the king majestically arrives at the castle. A spooky, mysterious mood portrays Merlin the Wizard and one of his mischievous spells. A romantic duet is heard describing the knight's love for the queen in Lancelot and Guinevere. The piece concludes with Knights of the Round Table, which conjures images of their gallop into battle and ultimate triumph.
