"The Chase" is a story of three children participating in a
race with each other. Trumpet 1 is the fastest child. Everyone knows someone
who developed earlier than others. This is represented by Trumpet 1. Trumpet
2 is the child that is not as fast as the first trumpet, but can still stay
relevant in the race. This child manages to take the lead several times, but
is still not expected to win. The tuba is the child that does not develop as
fast as the other children. They are there to have a good time, but always
stay in last place. The tuba is the underdog of the story. This piece tells
the story of the journey of the race. When one child (instrument) takes the
lead, the key is changed and that instrument takes the melody. Each
instrument is given the opportunity for the melody in their own dramatic
fashion.
