The Church's One Foundation

Widely loved and sung today, this traditional Anglican hymn celebrates the unity of the church in the midst of spiritual controversy. The stirring tune 'Aurelia' by Samuel Wesley is the basis of this setting for brass that features a bold introductory fanfare followed by four stirring verses punctuated by trumpet flourishes in which the tune is shared among all players. A final uplifting modulation leads to the dramatic finish and restatement of the opening fanfare Scored for flexible instrumentation, it can be performed by two trumpets and two trombones, or with a horn substitute part; optional bass trombone scoring is included and it can be used as an effective quintet piece by adding the optional tuba part.
