The Creation was composed in 2018 by use of a 12 tone row and is used in its original, inverted, retrograde and transposed forms. The original tone row can be heard in the first 6 bars of music where the cellos and basses outline the theme. This row is then used throughout the work but disguised with varied extended techniques. These techniques help to vary the music and enable each section of the story to be descriptive and programmatic.
The music closely follows the story of the creation found in the Bible's Book of Genesis. This literature was chosen as it allows the composer to be creative and has a variety of elements to the story, thus enabling a wide range of sound colours and techniques.
The choice of the 12 tone row utilises a 20th century compositional technique to tell a story that describes the beginning of time and life itself.
