The Esquire was commissioned in 2010 by the Lakeshore Symphonic Band (Cedarburg, Wisconsin) in honor of prominent local attorney Jim Kenny. The band had previously commissioned The Midwesterner march from the composer and returned to him after learning of Jim's illness and retirement from the band. Jim's favorite march was Zo Elliott's British Eighth so the march is written in the traditional British style. The popular English tune "Over The Hills And Far Away" is featured in the first part of piece, followed by a stately processional duet melody.
