This was written for the 2019 Spring concert of The Texas Voices, Alan Dyer, Director. The concert was called "Soar Away, An a cappella Experience. I found a text by James Weldon Johnson (1825-1938). He was also the author of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" that is often referred to as the Black National Anthem. After setting the 2nd verse, I found myself singing "How Can I keep from Singing" by Robert Lowry (1826-1899). So, I inserted one verse of that wonderful song before returning to The Gift to Sing. I was pleased when Alan allowed me to conduct at the concert. This would be good for a concert about singing or when you might like to add an a cappella piece.
