The Hawthorn Blues was written as a gift to friends of the composer, the Walker family. Their house, "Hawthorns" has been home to their four children, so it seemed fitting to write a piece with that in mind. Richard Nye scored the piece for the instruments the children played and composed music that he hopes they will still enjoy later in life.
