The High and Low Road

This one is a very entertaining duet feature for either tenor trombone and bass trombone or tenor sax and bari sax. There are optional section parts included if the duet soloists aren't part of the ensemble, such as guest artists. The parts can also be mixed and matched to feature tenor trombone and bari sax or tenor sax and bass trombone! The piece begins and ends with an a cappella duet with many humorous quotes. The main body of The High and Low Road is up-tempo swing, with an improv solo for tenor trombone or tenor sax, and a written-out solo for bass trombone or bari sax, which takes a brief trip into a Latin Montuno feel. The final closing a cappella duet finishes with a Bach "Jesu" quote that brings the band back in for a climactic ending in a slow, hard-swinging feel. This chart never fails to bring the house down!
