Upon moving to New York from Texas back in 2000, my wife and I took a trip up the Hudson River from the the city. We wound up in Tarrytown. We wandered and got lost! All of a sudden we were in Sleepy Hollow! We had no idea it was there. As we walked around the quiet hamlet, we mused about writing a song about Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman. Since I taught Lower and Middle School at the time, we couldn't make it too scary. So my wife, Rebecca Weis, wrote the lyrics. They tell of a ball that is going on in Sleepy Hollow. A young student has been invited, though she's heard that the Headless Horseman might appear! Never fear though! According to those in the know, he's "gotten much kinder as he's grown old!" There are many colorful characters in this song (Ichabod Crane, goblins, witches, and more!). I wrote the music to suit kids of about 8 years of age and up. The song alternates between 4/4, and 3/4 (to simulate the feeling of a waltz on the chorus). There are some 2/4 bars sporadically in the piece as well. This is a whimsical piece that has received rave reviews by those who both sing it and listen to it as part of an audience. It's become a tradition (over 20 years strong!) at my school. Hope you enjoy it!
