The Journey Suite, Mvt. 1

This movement is about family, life and love. It depicts the soulfulness of composer Marcus Printup's family driving him from their home in Georgia to Florida where Marcus would be attending the University of North Florida.
This movement has a moderate soulful groove. The driving straight eighth note rhythm played by the piano in the intro defines the mood of this movement. Mr. Printup notes "I was thinking about about the way Roy Hargrove plays when I wrote the melody."
Rich with blocked chords, the shout chorus calls for the lead trumpet to be strong and in turn, the ensemble ready to follow.
