Elmer Bernstein started his career as a concert pianist but in 1939 he became arranger of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Later he got a job with Columbia Pictures and wrote the soundtrack for the David Miller film Saturday's Hero (1951). He became very famous as film music composer and signed for the music of famous movie pictures such as The Ten Commandments, Bird Man of Alcatraz, To kill a Mocking Bird and The Bridge at Remagen. In 1960 he wrote the sound-track for the western by John Sturges The Magnifi-cent Seven starring Yul Brunner, Steve Mc Queen, Charles Bronson and James Coburn. The inhabitants of a small Mexican village, ravaged by a gang of raiders, call on seven adventurers who succeed in delivering the terrorized poor people from their assailants. Marcel Peeters wrote this fine arrangement of that popular sound-track.
