Herbert L. Clarke was considered by many musicians to be the world's greatest cornetist. His "Clarke Studies" and "Arban's-Clarke" books are still used today. He also was a conductor, private cornet instructor and composer with over 240 compositions. The probable inspiration of this piece was the Haudenosaunee Indian legend of Niagara Falls. Women were held in very high esteem in their culture, but over the years the legend was distorted. Which version inspired this trumpet solo is unknown. The solo's main difficulty is triple tonguing. Audiences enjoy watching a soloist perform and the various sections of this short piece please performers and audiences alike. Band grade 3 Solo 4+.
