The Military Symphony

If you want to play authentic Classical music or you wish to honour the military, Haydn's Military Symphony is a smart tip of the hat to all who currently serve, veterans, or past heroes, It is appropriate for all concerts and may be especially festive on holiday performances such as Independence Day, Veterans Day, and Memorial Day. Haydn's 100th symphony was dubbed the "Military" Symphony largely because of the second movement's extensive use of the brass and percussion sections. This transcription includes the addition of the snare drum, which was not included in the composer's original version. The famous bugle call adds to the regimental character. The modern band student does not often get a chance to perform actual Classical music. This is a faithful transcription for the band director who wishes to teach the Classical style of Haydn, the father of the Classical era. To make this accessible for younger musicians in the concert band, the key has been changed to B-flat. Several doublings are present and the some ornaments from the original score have been written out. Instrumental ranges have been carefully considered and are appropriate for the middle level school band.
