The Minotaur depicts a warrior meeting the mythological Minotaur in
battle. The work utilizes the Dies
Irae from the thirteenth century as a motif.
At times, rock elements are used to depict the intensity of the battle
with the Minotaur. Will the warrior be
victorious, or will the Minotaur continue to roam the labyrinth? That is for
the audience to decide.
The work is intended for second-year or higher players, is in C minor, and
is within the range of the concert Bb major scale plus C for all
instruments. The work gives students
the opportunity to learn about Greek mythology, the Dies Irea, and the use of
a Coda within band music.
