As recorded by VOCES8 on their 2019 album Enchanted Isle, this soaring setting of Hafiz-inspired poetry by Daniel Ladinsky speaks of the matchless beauty of unconditional love. For a cappella choir with optional solo cello. This is an a cappella arrangement of movement III of LUX: The Dawn from On High, originally scored for chorus with chamber ensemble, small orchestra, or full orchestra.

A spectacularly sweeping score, Forrest's most expansive work to date. Written on the 225th anniversary of Haydn's similarly themed masterpiece, this 72-minute oratorio explores the wonders of our planet through a dazzling variety of musical expressions for chorus, orchestra, and soprano and baritone soloists.
 
Designed as a symphonic masterwork, the scoring nevertheless keeps choral parts accessible by sharing the load with two soloists, using only reasonable divisi, remaining consistent in repeated sections, and making significant use of reprises and refrains to limit the total amount of material to be learned. Rehearsal Tracks (available from the publisher) will also greatly aid learning the choral parts. The work is designed to be performed without intermission but can be performed in two halves if necessary.

The lesser-heard original Scottish tune for this folksong is arranged in this gorgeous setting for choir, piano, optional soloist, and optional flute or orchestra. Burns' text speaks meaningfully not only during the holidays, but anytime as a treasured folksong. This could also be considered for other ceremonies, graduations, or any closing or parting.

Light Beyond Shadow

This is a 35 minute, 5 movement work for chorus and orchestra encompassing ancient chant, shimmering light, unconditional love, heavenly joy, and deep peace.  Performances require the rental of one of the three instrumental ensembles: Full Orchestra, Small Orchestra with solo winds, harp, 2 percussionist and string ensemble and finally a Chamber Ensemble version for flute, oboe, horn, violin, cello, harp 2 percussionist and organ. Inspiring!

Dan Forrest's fourth major work continues in the vein of his previous major works, exploring profound themes of what it is to be human. the breath of life ponders the beauty - yet brevity - of human life as portrayed in a single breath. Its profoundly moving texts (ranging from ancient to modern) explore life, loss, and the love that makes life worthwhile. Written just before the events of 2020, this work speaks with a prophetic voice, and would be a deeply fitting tribute for any concert setting, but particularly themes of memorial/remembrance. 
 
Scored for SATB chorus, strings, solo cello, piano, electronics, and organ. Rental of instrumental score/parts, required for performance, is available from the publisher.
