This arrangement is a novel and refreshing presentation of this old gospel hymn in a more flowing and upbeat style. Although the original hymn has several verses, this arrangement develops just two sections to capture the intent of all verses. The first section, in 3/4 time, reflects the somber tone associated with Christ's crucifixion and death, and the awe felt by George Bennard as he reflected on the cross and its meaning. The second section, in 4/4 time, takes on a more joyful and upbeat style which focuses on Christ's resurrection. This happy, yet somewhat restrained dance-like swing rhythm, accomplishes this emotion in a most meaningful way. The piece ends in a quiet and thoughtful manner reflective of "a hill far away".
