This arrangement is a refreshing presentation of this old gospel hymn in a more flowing and upbeat style. Although the original hymn has several verses, this arrangement develops just two sections to capture the intent of all the verses. The first section, in 3/4 time, reflects the somber tone associated with Christ's crucifixion and death, and the awe felt by George Bennard as he reflected on the cross and its meaning. The section section, in 4/4 time, takes on a more joyful style which focuses on God's grace through Christ's death and resurrection. This happy, yet somewhat restrained dance-like style swing rhythm, accomplishes this in a most meaningful way. The piece ends in a quiet and thoughtful manner reflective of the cross "...on a hill far away...".
