The Saxophone Book 1

Written with students, educators and pros in mind, this three-book series by Jeff Coffin focuses on the technical and improvisational aspects of playing the saxophone. The concepts in these books have been fine-tuned by Jeff over the course of more than 300 clinics and countless lessons. This Book 1 of the series includes must-hear sax players and recordings, how to practice, equipment tips, and much more. A special emphasis is placed on the Big 5 Fundamentals: listening, tone and dynamics, articulation, rhythm and time, and harmony. Also included is a multitude of exercises and lessons on major scales, chord qualities, and modes including Ionian, Phrygian, mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian. The ultimate goal is to help students learn to teach themselves.
