Thematic Guide to Piano Literature

The Thematic Guide to Piano Literature is an easy-to-use reference that identifies and specifies grade levels of solo piano works. Each book of the 5-volume series grades basic piano literature according to nine levels of difficulty, taking into account both musical character and technical challenges. The introductory measures of each movement of each work are given. Volume One covers easy pieces of J. S. Bach and Handel, sonatinas of various composers, and sonatas of Haydn. Volume Two features the works of Mozart and Beethoven with brief commentary on the critical requirements of each movement - turns and trills in thirds, a bouncing rhythm of sixteenth notes between hands. Volume Three identifies the grades and in some cases the major aspects of Chopin's preludes, mazurkas, waltzes, ecossaises, nocturnes, etudes, and many other pieces plus Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words and his numerous other piano compositions. Volume Four offers grade levels of numerous piano compositions of Franz Schubert and Robert Schumann. Volume Five covers pieces by Franz Liszt. �Each book includes commentary in both English and French.
