The Christmas Star was very important. Many found their way to Bethlehem because of it's bright light that shown down upon the stable where Jesus lay. This cantata tells the story of the Angel giving Mary news. Mary and Joseph traveling to Bethlehem where Jesus was born. The Angels, shepherds and the three Kings following the star to find Jesus.
This is just melody, optional flute on 3 songs and piano. Perfect for the lower grades that don't sing harmonies. There is narration before each song.
Songs in the cantata are:
Mary Had a Baby Boy - has some melody of Mary Had a Little Lamb, but also has new lyrics and melody
A Little Baby - original by me. A little baby born to save us one and all
What Child is This -
They Saw a Star - original by me. The Three kings find their way to see baby Jesus
We Three Kings/Scarbarough Fair - Lyrics from We Three Kings with the melody of Scarborough Fair
Also for older elementary, teen or small choir:
This cantata is perfect for kids that are able to start singing parts in music. There are 5 songs in the cantata. There is narration before each song.
1. Ave Maria Christmas version - This song has the lyrics "Ave Maria" throughout - which means Hail Mary. Some of the lyrics are a translation of the original Ave Maria. The rest of the lyrics are written for Christmas. The melody is the same as Ave Maria. It is intended for a soloist with duet harmonies.
2. A Little Baby - original song is written for duet. A Little Baby in a stall - A Little Baby oh so small - A Little baby born for all - A Little Baby
3. Pachelbel Canon Christmas medley - this iconic song has lyrics from 4 Christmas songs - While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks by Night, Away in a Manger, What Child is This and The First Noel. There are parts where one part will ahh while the other sings the lyrics and then parts where they both sing the lyrics together in harmony. So pretty.
4. They Saw a Star - original song about the star leading people to Bethlehem
5. We Three Kings - uses the lyrics of We Three Kings, but the melody of Scarborough Fair - it flowed very well together.
and has a different harmony than the Simon and Garfunkel version. Fun to perform.
