Three Korean Sketches (2025) is a set of three character pieces for solo piano at the early advanced level, composed by Hyunjung Rachel Chung. Commissioned for digital artist Moon Jung-Joo’s exhibition PROJECTION V: bLuE bLuE bLuE, the work responds to visual themes of climate reflection, unity, and hope.
Each movement—Lunar Eclipse, Pas de Deux, and In the Hydrangea Field—is based on the beloved Korean folk song Saeya saeya parang saeya. The second movement also features Gutgeori Jangdan, a traditional Korean rhythmic pattern. Written as “pairing music,” the set creates a resonant dialogue between sound and image.
