Three rivers depicts the confluence of three rivers, it's variety of calm waters and serious rapids. It was written for my good friend, Kirk Clague, and long time resident of Three Rivers. I think it also captures some of Kirk's positive out-going personality.
Three Rivers is a community in Tulare County, California, United States. Located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range at the edge of the San Joaquin Valley, the town is near the entrance of the Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. These two national parks, which border the town to the northeast, are the prime attraction of Three Rivers. The town's name comes from its location near the junction of the North, Middle, and South Forks of the Kaweah River. The population was 2,699 at the 2020 census, up from 2,182 at the 2010 census.
Three Rivers is located within the Kaweah River canyon, just above Lake Kaweah. The surrounding terrain is marked by oak woodland forest and foothills. The Kaweah River drainage is a very short river drainage, and quickly the terrain climbs from around 1,000 feet in Three Rivers to 3,000-5,000 ft on the surrounding hills, and upward to over 14,000 ft at Mt. Whitney, fifty miles to the East.
