The Classical Concerto for piano and strings was written and

The Concert Pianist, Eduardo Rojas performed the world premier of this work at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth at "The Modern Music Festival"
 in conjuncture with the Fort Worth Contemporary Music Fund. The composer, Timothy brown and his wife Mi Won Choi Brown were also present in the
audience. The work was inspired by the work "Trois Mouvements Perpetuels" by Frances Poulenc (1918; revised in 1939 and 1960) and represented a 
clear break from the impressionistic flavor of French piano music in the early 20th century.

About this work for piano solo,

I was inspired by the works of both Samuel Barber and Luciana Berio during this time period in my life. I was studying music composition and orchestration in London at the time of its conception and writing.  It stands tall with my other larger-scale works for the piano, such as my "Babi Yar" for solo piano and my piano concerto "The Baku Concerto" for Piano and Orchestra.

"The harmonic language of this work stands out with its creative blend of traditional tonal centers and modern compositional concepts. This unique combination results in a sound that feels familiar yet new. Here, the pianist will find unexpected harmonic shifts that guide listeners through a rich exploration of emotions and timbres that only the piano can provide. The unique balance of chromaticism with an emphasis on tonal and atonal writing helps to define this large-scale American work for piano as a historical moment  for the literature of the piano written during the 21st century."

Sonata for Piano

"Sendai's Night Stories" is a set of whole-tone influenced works for the piano that explore the imagination of a child. Each title evokes a dreamlike state of a small child at the close of the day being read whimsical bedtime stories in hopes of sharing a path to an imaginative world. The works do not use key signatures and the single page length of each work allows the pianist to display much freedom of expression in a very confined space and time. The eastern-influenced harmonies and melodic materials are intended to help the performer discover their own path of the ebb and flow of the music throughout this magical collection of piano miniatures.

Sendai"s Night Stories

A late-intermediate level piano ensemble arrangement of George Gershwin's famous "Rhapsody in Blue" for one piano (four hands). This work has been edited to allow for an equal balance between performers. This ensemble is both pianistic and pedagogical andpromises tol be a sure hit with audiences and also will be fun to both teach and perform.

The second movement of the Cantata, an "Alleluia," is solemn, and reflective of it'€™s initial use in the ancient Greek Liturgy of St. James. It'€™s "€œchant like" opening gradually builds to a tremendous climax towards the end of the movement in both dynamics and harmonic development. The movement uses an "a cappella" setting and serves as a decisive dividing point between the first and final movement. The "Alleluia" or Hebrew word "Halleluya" text can be used interchangeably to suit both traditional Jewish and Christian performance practice. The overall message of thanksgiving, joy, and triumph is interwoven throughout this movement as a vocal tapestry.

The static monophonic beginnings of the third movement "Of Thine Impenetrable Spirit,"reflects the story and struggle of the titan "Prometheus" found in Greek mythology. The text is from the third verse of the poem "Prometheus" by the English poet, Lord Byron.The movement slowly builds from the opening moments of the movement to a triumphant restatement in fullness of intensity in both the choral and orchestral parts. The concluding section features a violin solo introducing a theme of hope and purity.The violin continues as if following the process from afar, yet having an important role of leading the choir and orchestra to the final statement of the opening chorale which was first presented in the opening of the first movement.Timothy Brown, composer (2009)

This Choral work was commissioned by the Daniel Pearl Foundation and was written in dedication to Daniel Pearl. Daniel's Father, Dr. Judea Pearl was in attendance of the first performance at Chapman University along with the composer and his wife. Maestro Adron Ming later conducted the Texas Premiere of this "Cantata" with the Lewisville Lake Symphony and a 240 member choir with Daniel's Father again in attendance.

I have always felt that Ruth Crawford Seeger was a gifted composer. Her "String Quartet" still stands alone as one of the finest quartets written by an American composer. As life and children began to take center stage in her life her writing was sadly neglected in the later stages of her life. This new "String Quartet" written in the 21st century is my way to celebrate her talents and to hopefully help to bring more attention to her legacy.
