Developed from a study of Sergei Prokofiev's Classical Symphony in D Major, Opus 25, the Transformation Symphony was written as a tribute to Prokofiev's style much as Prokofiev paid homage to the works of Joseph Haydn. The Transformation Symphonya consists of four contrasting movements which include Dream (Allegro), Sacrifice (Larghetto), Perseverance (Minuet and Trio) and Metamorphosis (Rondo.) Listening to Dream with its lilting playfulness, one can imagine Prokofiev's pen-tip notations for the woodwinds and listening to the doublet notes in the strings calls to mind notes designed to mirror Prokofiev. The composer includes a Mannheim rocket cadence paying homage to the times of Haydn and used as a bridge. The movement is fresh and fanciful like any new idea or any new day - a dream, if you will. And the absolute delight is the exclamation point added at the end.
