The composer writes: This piece is the second of my short orchestral works inspired by the abstract art of Wassily Kandinsky. His Transverse Line of 1923 is a dynamic painting, full of motion and rhythmic energy. It is these qualities that I have sought to capture and emulate in my composition of the same name. Transverse Line may be performed as an independent overture, or as the second movement of my Three Paintings by Kandinsky.
