Composed in 1996, this work for violin soloist and piano accompanist is in three movements: Danza, Preludio and Fuga (the Preludio leads directly into the Fuga). The first movement is a waltz and probably the most immediately accessible movement; it has been described as "serpentine cabaret" by one performer, a very apt description. The Preludio is more restrained, gradually building tension as it leads into the Fuga, a Spanish-tinged movement that explores bi-tonality and demands that the violinist mimic a guitar by strumming the strings.
