This much-loved spiritual has been orchestrated for brass quintet in calypso style with inter-locking rhythmic patterns. Dating from the 1860's, it refers to the archangel Michael and crossing the river Jordan. It found new life in the 1960's as a folk song as recorded by many artists and groups.
