Triumph

Triumph draws from elements of both Western European Composed/Art Music and African - American musical styles. The syncopated rhythms and percussive effects (such as slapping the front of the cello) are evocative of hip-hop and rock, and give the piece a funky pulse. Hints of Dvorak are lightly sprinkled throughout the melodic motifs (listen carefully!). This follows the practice of sampling or quoting, which is very common in hip/hop and classical music. The opening theme is intended to create an antiphonal, stereo like effect as if you were wearing a pair of headphones. This is the perfect, high energy piece to conclude your concert!
