"Canary Bird" is a delightful aria written by American composer William Ball (1790-1860). I discovered it while exploring www.imslp.org. It was originally written for piano and voice and I have adapted it for several different instruments with piano.  This version is for flute and piano.

Flute Solo with Piano

"Mr. Clary" was written at the request of my friend and publishing partner Lester Pack to feature Mr. Tom Clary, a great friend and outstanding musician. The style is intended to emulate Freddie Hubbard (one of Mr. Clary's favorite trumpeters), more specifically, his tune "Sky Dive." This composition also works really well as a flute feature, especially after hearing Hubert Laws on the original "Sky Dive" recording, so a solo flute part is included.

"Technical Foul" was written for my band at Travis Middle School in Paris, TX, in the fall of 2007. This band was comprised of 8th graders and they love to play rock tunes so this tune was perfect for them. The harmonic language was taken from the Foo Fighters, one of my favorite rock bands and there is a nod to the Weather Report classic, "Birdland." Although percussionists will have the most fun with this tune, there are interesting parts for all instruments. This hard driving rock tune should be a blast to play!

12 Days of Christmas

Jazz Ensemble Score & Parts

Commissioned by Cooper High School (Cooper, TX), Jeff Bradford, dir.  Premiered at the 2005 Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio, TX.  This arrangement opens with an F horn solo with vibraphone accompaniment.  There are wonderful harmonies and soaring lines throughout this arrangement and this could be the perfect composition to feature you star F horn player.

Amazing Grace

"Pocket Aces" is my first trombone section feature with jazz band. It has a shuffle-like "Green Onions" feel. As usual in a feature such as this, the trombone parts are more advanced than\ the rest of the band. Solos may be played by any trombone, as well as piano, bass and/or guitar. This is a great chart for any band with a hot-shot trombone section. Special thanks to Dr. Alexandra Zacharella for nailing all the trombone parts in the recording!

Pocket Aces

Commissioned by the White Hall High School Band (White Hall, AR), Robert Brown, cond.  Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the city of White Hall.  This chart has a bold introduction with a sweet, melodic slow section to feature your star flute player.

Crenshaw Springs Overture

"Magic Carpet" was a tune in my sketchbook, written in the early 90's. This arrangement is described as "Flowing ECM" which reflects early Pat Metheny (check out "Phase Dance") recordings. The lead alto sax is required to double on flute and perform a flute solo. Electric piano is recommended, but not required. In addition to flugel &amp; flute solo, the solo section may be opened up to include guitar and/or piano.

Magic Carpet

This is a beautiful setting of the Kyrie prayer (Lord Have Mercy) from the Gregorian mass setting "Missa de Angelis."  This beautiful melody has been reharmonized with modern concert band sensibilities.  This would be a wonderful selection for the lyrical repertoire of the current symphonic band literature.

Indian Hills

This is a fanfare and theme based on the hymn "It Is Well With My Soul"  It was commissioned by the 106th Army Band stationed out of Camp Joseph T. Robinson Maneuver Training Center., North Little Rock, AR to honor the retirement of one of their long standing members,  1SG Gregory L. Gordy.

Faith and Country

Die Abgebluhte Linde (German for "The Faded Linden Tree") was composed by the master of German leider, Franz Schubert. An Opus 7 number would indicate that this is one of his earlier cataloged works. This is a beautiful, flowing work scored here for flute and piano.

"Danse Orientale" was originally a pedagogical piano work written by American composer Bert R. Anthony (1876-1923). It was a song from his song cycle "Rose of the Orient." I have taken this composition and arranged it for several instruments. This one is for flute and piano.

This energetic piece is delightfully contrapuntal, yet written for young band. Your drummers will be refreshingly challenged by the spirited snare parts in this highly enjoyable composition.
