This programmatic work illustrates the eeriness and danger of a vast, sub-zero wilderness. The opening calm includes dissonant ostinato patterns paired with fragmented motifs. An ensuing storm then erupts with gusting rhythms and a menacing melody as the music powers forward into a ferocious whirlwind of sound before subsiding to its close with an ominous sense of unsettled calm.
