Twilight Requiem

Something I hold in very high regard is the period of time every day where the sun begins to pass over the horizon and descend into the night. This piece, inspired jointly by my fascination with this natural daily occurrence and the lifelong experiences I have had playing an instrument as beautiful as the cello, aims to capture a feeling of awe and admiration not dissimilar from the one that could be found in moments when fading sunlight merges gracefully into the calm of evening. As Yo-Yo Ma, renowned cellist and eloquent voice for the harmony between humanity and the environment, reminds us: “Let us use culture to remember that we are part of nature; that the survival of the earth cannot be separated from the health of society; and that to love each other is to love our planet.”
