"Un Viaggio nell'Italia Meridionale" translates to "A trip to Southern Italy". This charming arrangement is a dedication to Mr. Spadea's late grandparents and godparents: Jeanette Spadea of Sicilian heritage and Frank Spadea Sr. of Calabrian and Neapolitan heritage. Written for bassoon quintet, it incorporates folk songs from southern Italy that are known by many Italian-Americans. These songs include the Italian National Anthem:"Il Canto degli Italiani", "Ciuri, Ciuri", a famous Sicilian folk song that translates to "Flowers, Flowers", and the very famous "Tarantella Napoletana" as the finale. While the time and key signatures are easier, it is great piece to practice transitions as a chamber group. It is very fun to play, and a crowd pleaser!
