Undercurrents was commissioned by the New Hudson Saxophone Quartet and premiered by the ensemble at the Bergen Community College (New Jersey) in October 2005. The work, in one movement, is a musical study of large bodies of water. On the surface things may seem calm but motion and cross currents abound under it. Sometimes the contrast between the surface and the depths below are reversed as well, and sometimes energies are shared.
