Winner of the 2004 "Juan Bautista Comes Choral Composition Competition," in Segorbe, Spain, this work begins with altos, then sopranos in a polyphonic invocation of the Holy Spirit. The music grows to four-part women in chordal harmony, leading to the men's entrances. Various dynamic and textural changes accommodate this series of petitions. Along with more intimate sections, extended, broadly voiced harmonies are typified by polychords and brilliant flashes of dissonance, or remain sustained, as a solo soprano chants high above. Bold and expansive.
