Vociferation

To vociferate is to cry out loudly or noisily. Jack Stamp's work for 12 percussionists takes the listener on a roller coaster ride of emotion. The first section of the piece switches between unnerving minimalism and thick, frenzied melody. The battery and timpani then briefly take over, ending the section in a burst of sharp sounds. With the primal scream let out, the piece turns serene with soft harmonies and light timbres in the mallet instruments. The fast minimalistic rhythms then return in the battery, and the piece ends the way it began. A great piece!
