Walking To Madrid is a dynamic, melodic, and exotic-sounding work that will engage each musician in the ensemble and provide them with opportunities for both solo and ensemble lines. The piece also provides technical and dynamic variety, as well as contrasts between melodic and accompaniment lines for each instrument.
In addition, Walking To Madrid works very well for recital programming and is a distinctive and interesting contrast to more standard repertoire. And, it can captivate audiences in a concert performance setting as well.
Walking To Madrid was inspired by the composer’s travels throughout Spain by train, as well as many miles on foot, while she made her way to Madrid. She found the countryside, the towns, and the capital city stunningly beautiful, pastoral, overwhelming, and awe-inspiring. She also went through four pairs of walking shoes.
