COMMISSIONED by the McLean Paris Foundation, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and the Texas Sesquicentennial Foundation, Bruce Faulconer composed WASHINGTON ON THE BRAZOS in February to May of 1986. The piece is a celebration of the 150th anniversary of Texas founding, commemorating the site of the Convention of 1836 and the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence.
WASHINGTON ON THE BRAZOS is a Symphonic Poem in three movements for large symphony orchestra. The harmonies in the piece are both harmonious, majestic, and beautiful. It opens with a tempo marking, fast and valiant, then Majestic in the second movement, concluding with fast and valiant again. The Poem's imagery paints a picture of struggle, resilience, and a rising nation battling for its freedom.
The difficulty level is suggested for performance by College and Professional Orchestras.
