Teach history through music with this beginner-friendly arrangement of
the Civil Rights Movement song "We Shall Overcome." Made famous by
Pete Seeger and Joan Baez, the song has finally been attributed to the
correct writer before entering the public domain: Louise Shropshire.
Shropshire, a music minister and entrepreneur, composed the tune in 1942,
which the Library of Congress now calls "the most powerful song of the
20th century." This short arrangement can find a place on any program
for Black History Month, or year-round.
