This setting of the familiar Lenten spiritual has depth yet is accessible to developing ringers. It begins with an optional two-measure introduction of dissonant chords symbolizing the crucifixion as Jesus is nailed to the cross. Then listeners are captivated by the haunting singing bell and malleted suspended bells. The two editions are compatible for massed ringing.
