Based on the text of the familiar Appalachian folk hymn but with new music, this emotive arrangement features a descending melodic figure in the piano accompaniment that paints the recurring portion of the text "When I was sinking down." The hollow sound of open fifths with a flowing piano accompaniment illustrates the blend of despair of Christ's death and the hope of the resurrection.
