Commissioned by the Revelli Foundation as the inaugural commission of the Paynter Project, this substantive single-movement work unfolds over fourteen minutes revealing a breadth of feelings from mourning, to life-affirmation, to serenity. The piece is dedicated to the memory of John P. Paynter, the title is taken from the motto of Northwestern University where he served as Director of Bands from 1953 to 1996, and the common thematic thread is the Northwestern Alma Mater Hymn, the "St. Anthony Chorale." This is an important work certain to establish its place in serious concert band repertoire. Very highly recommended!
