This hymn was written with four verses. This arrangement is an orchestral interpretation of each verse. In verse one we find the surveying of the wonders of the cross on which Jesus died. We have no pride of our own. Verse two talks about what do we have to boast about except the death of Christ. So this arrangement for verses one and two reflect the beauty and glory of Jesus Christ. The melody and harmonies are soft and melodic. Verse three is about what Jesus went through for His death on the cross so music for this verse is in g minor to reflect that terrible experience. Verse four is all about the Resurrection and our response, so music for this verse is triumphant and victorious. Therefore, there is a heavy brass presence with bass and treble parts complimenting each other progressing toward a climactic finale.
