This lush and broad piece is very expressive, and is block-scored with rich chord structure throughout. The piece does not expose any one particular section, as all of the melodic lines are doubled with other instruments, so it is a fantastic work to perform where everyone is playing pretty much the entire time. There are tons of opportunities for expressive teaching, and any band will sound very beautiful performing this piece.
The title "When You Close Your Eyes" depicts someone who is either dreaming, reflecting, or otherwise just taking a minute to gather their thoughts and emotions.
